Devochka-zima

In honor of Oleg Molchan’s jubilee year, Irina Vidova and Ray Records are releasing new songs by the Maestro every Friday. Previously, they shared the track “Kruzhevo sireni,” and today, the spotlight is on “Devochka-zima.”

Typically, Oleg Molchan composed songs with a specific performer in mind, carefully considering their strengths. But sometimes, inspiration struck spontaneously. This was one of those times. Beautiful winter weather inspired Oleg Molchan to write a light, melodic piece, with Irina Vidova penning the lyrics. The question was: who would sing it? At that point, a performer hadn’t been chosen yet, but it was clear it had to be a young man.

During one of Oleg Molchan’s concerts, the Belarusian State Ensemble Pesniary performed. It was then that Oleg and Irina noticed Andrey Usanov, the band’s lead singer.

Premieres of such winter songs are traditionally held in winter, and this was no exception. However, life had other plans, and the performance was postponed.

Meanwhile, the song found its way into Andrey Usanov’s repertoire. The official premiere was eventually scheduled for a concert dedicated to Oleg Molchan’s birthday — April 11. And suddenly, the weather played along. As the audience made their way down the red carpet into the venue where the composer’s anniversary was celebrated, it started to snow. So, the winter-themed song turned out to be perfectly timed.

Now, it’s making its debut on digital music platforms. And it doesn’t matter that it’s summer — a great song transcends seasons.

The track has been available across all major platforms since August 1.
