Irina Shorkina Releases Classic Romance “V Lunnom Siyanii” on Digital Platforms

On August 28, the night of the full moon, singer Irina Shorkina – a leading soloist of Mosconcert and Honored Artist of the Chuvash Republic – premiered her digital release of the classic romance “V lunnom siyanii” (In the Moonlight). The track features piano accompaniment by Maxim Timofeev and was released under the Ray Records music label.

Irina Shorkina, an acclaimed performer of traditional and classical romances, cinema tracks, Russian folk songs, and opera, operetta, and musical arias, brings a vibrant new interpretation to “V lunnom siyanii.” The singer’s crystal-clear voice captivates the listener, fully revealing the emotional depth of the piece.

Written at the turn of the 20th century, the romance “V lunnom siyanii” (also known as “Din-din-din” or “Kolokolchik”) belongs to the traditional genre of yamshchitsie pesni (“coachman songs”). The music and lyrics were written by poet and composer Evgeny Yuriev, and the piece was famously performed by legendary artists such as Anastasia Vyaltseva and Maria Karinskaya. Following the October Revolution, the romance was nearly forgotten for almost a quarter of a century. However, during World War II, interest in the genre was revived. Today, “V lunnom siyanii” remains one of the most popular Russian romances, frequently featured in theatrical productions, feature films, and the repertoires of numerous artists.
